Find Your Next Job Using Twitter

I just read an article from Time Magazine, “Using Twitter and Facebook to Find a Job.” The article tells how Brian Ward used social media sites to find his next job as quickly as possible. Because Brian was already using Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, it only took him eleven days to replace the previous job he lost.

Being at the right place at the right time and taking advantage of every opportunity you have took a bit more time in the past. With the advent of social media, you have the potential to accelerate the process and have more jobs to choose from. You may be tweeting with your next employer, so be ready and get your profiles polished in Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Twitterholic can also present statistics on the top tweeters in your hometown, but the problem is that there is no fixed naming convention for the cities. For example, in Middle Georgia, I’ve found tweeters using Middle Georgia, USA; Macon, GA; Macon, Georgia USA, etc. These are all separate lists. It is understandable that Middle Georgia, USA would be on a separate list, but the different variations of Macon, GA should be consolidated. So, in the meantime, we’ve consolidated the data for you and will be periodically updating these statistics.

I’ve been keeping up with the news with Twitter lately. Next to using feed readers like Google Reader or our latest website, newsRoundTown™, Twitter is a great way to keep up with the news and what is going on in the immediate vicinity. In order to use Twitter to keep up with the news, you must follow news organizations that have a presence on Twitter. Surprisingly, not all of the local news organizations in Middle Georgia, which includes Macon, Warner Robins, Forsyth, Milledgeville, Dublin and surrounding areas aren’t on Twitter yet, much less use it to broadcast news.
